Old school NBA fans might be familiar with a sharpshooter who once played a majority of his career with the Charlotte Hornets named Dell Curry. This guy was a legitimate threat from three-point range and now his son is looking to become the same thing as well. Steph Curry has been an important piece of the Golden State Warriors, a team that has long been the epitome of mediocrity in the Western Conference of the NBA.
The last time that the Warriors made the post season was back in 2007 and it has been disappointment after disappointment since then. Steph Curry used to be one-half of the highest scoring backcourt tandems in the NBA along with Monta Ellis. These two terrific young guards averaged a combined 43 ppg during their time together. Curry has shown the same lethal three-point accuracy that made his father one of the deadliest shooters in the game.
Aside from his long-range shooting, Curry is also capable of driving to the paint and creating his own shots. His deadeye accuracy on his jumpers makes guarding him a top priority and this sometimes forces opposing teams to double up on him. This gives his teammates enough breathing room to get wide-open shots and which gives Steph the opportunity to use his playmaking skills.
He is also a very capable defender currently averaging just a shade under two steals per game in his young career. Because of his youthful appearance and calm demeanor, Warriors fans have dubbed him the baby-faced assassin. Curry has what it takes to become an All-Star caliber player for the Warriors, but the only thing that is keeping him is his durability.
Over the course of his three-year career, Curry has injured his ankle twice and this has caused more than enough concern for both his fans and teammates. His fans want to see him succeed because he has the potential to be a great player in the league as long as he stays healthy. His teammates, on the other hand, need him to be healthy because he has become an important piece of their offense.
Entering the 2012 – 2013 season, the Warriors have shown vast signs of improvement despite having some of their key players injured. But with Curry helping lead the way, there is a good chance that Golden State will become playoff contenders once more as long as he remains healthy.
