BEST CHAIN HOTELS: The Westin, Four Seasons brands are in Dublin. The Westin is right bang in the centre of Dublin and quietly does its thing. It is a hotel that is not high on the radar but reports are good. It has very pleasant public areas, a cool cocktail bar and restaurant. You can expect Westin standard rooms with cozy down beds and choice of pillows. The Four Seasons is on the other hand a little south of city centre and delivers on the Four Seasons service promise.
BEST HOTEL ICON: The Westbury lies off Grafton St and was given a total refurbishment. It is the typical ‘grand old dame’ of 5 stars with afternoon tea. It delivers well on five star service and is in a great location just off the main shopping street. All the main visitor haunts are within a few minutes walk.
BEST BOUTIQUE HOTEL: The Merrion Hotel lies behind a Georgian facade opposite Government Buildings. It has full leisure facilities including swimming pool and spa. It has two restaurants – one of which is much loved Michelin rated restaurant and a quaint cellar bar. Despite its city centre location it is a beautiful tranquil spot with pleasant gardens to the rear and friendly able service.
BEST HIP HOTEL: The Fitzwilliam Hotel is a stylish 5 star overlooking St Stephens Green. It has a super restaurant on site and very hip and stylish rooms. It is a great location – just a hop, skip and a jump to shopping (Grafton St), historic sites (National Gallery/Museum/Trinity and close to a huge selection of pubs and restaurants.
